The NSW Government launches Cogniss-powered apps to address problem gambling behaviors
The NSW government has launched two Cogniss-powered mobile apps to support users who want to change their relationship with gambling.
Problem gambling is a serious issue and the urge to gamble can crop up at any time of the day, said Hospitality and Racing Minister Kevin Anderson in a press statement.
Psychology researchers specializing in addiction and problem gambling from Deakin University and the University of Auckland have partnered with the government to design these apps.
“Both apps use a micro-randomized trial design, supported within the Cogniss platform, to deliver interventions. This design approach helps researchers study the effect of various interventions and further optimize the apps,” says Cogniss CEO Leon Young.
The first app, GamblingLess: In-the-Moment, looks at users’ check-in responses to suggest activities that curb urges, tackle triggers, or explore expectations. The second app, Gambling Habit Hacker, delivers strategic options that are helpful to the user at that specific time.
“Versatility is a key aspect of the Cogniss platform that enables researchers to choose from and customize features to build sophisticated interventions,” Leon adds.
We are proud to have partnered with the NSW government and leading universities on this project and hope these apps will help people.
Both apps are now available on the Apple and Google Play store. For more information, click here.
