Health Innovation East Digital Hub launches Cohort 1, powered by Cogniss

Following our first-of-its-kind partnership with Health Innovation East, we are excited to announce the official launch of the first cohort of the Digital Health Hub programme. Powered by Cogniss’s no-code platform, this programme is designed to empower innovators—including clinicians, academics and SMEs—to create patient-centric solutions for the NHS and beyond. The programme offers innovators a comprehensive six-month package of funded app development, testing, and validation.

This first cohort includes 6 participants from NHS Trusts: Croydon, Cambridge University Hospitals (2 teams), Central London Community Healthcare and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough (2 teams). Additionally, an academic from the University of Cambridge and two SMEs join this inaugural group. The cohort mirrors the diversity of the UK’s healthcare ecosystem, with participants focusing on a wide array of health challenges:

  • Awekind offers parenting resources that respect diverse community traditions.

  • MySelf Healthcare video support to achieve children’s personalised speech therapy activities and goals.

  • IMPACT uses adaptive games to develop attention and concentration skills as part of rehabilitation for patients with brain injuries.

  • Minding My Skin offers self-help resources to improve the mental wellbeing of people affected by skin conditions.

  • FrailtyAI helps predict frailty-related risks, monitors patients in real-time and provides tailored guidance for clinical teams.

  • ME app for patients with ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, making it easier for people to communicate with their clinician.

  • Podiatry Portal helps improve adherence to Podiatrist’s care instructions and helps eliminate outdated paper records.

  • Neurodiversity app provides quick access to personalised resources and local support for carers of neurodiverse young people.

  • Compassion Compass supports the wellbeing of healthcare workers, to understand their emotional state and prevent compassion fatigue.

Of the Digital Health Hub programme Joanna Dempsey, Commercial Enterprise Lead at Health Innovation East said:

“This is a great opportunity for innovators to bring their app ideas to life quickly and with expert support. Using the tools from Cogniss, they can rapidly develop and test solutions, while also ensuring digital compliance. We are looking forward to the results of this first cohort and how quickly their apps can be made available to benefit patients and the NHS.”

Lloyd Humphreys, Managing Director at Cogniss said:

“Our vision is to simplify the development and commercialisation of digital health by clinical and patient experts. Using our no-code platform eliminates the need for traditional software development skills making it possible to develop advanced patient-centric apps in a matter of weeks instead of months.”

After completing the programme, these apps will have multiple pathways forward—whether published as standalone solutions available on the web or app stores or as apps within the Digital Health Hub awaiting further funding.

This partnership aligns with Cogniss’s strategic goal of expanding into the NHS and working closely with health experts and organisations to accelerate digital health innovation that addresses pressing healthcare challenges.
